Armend's Restaurante
Returning back to an Italian motif, on this entry I have wandered back into Southlake to give “Armend’s Restaurante” a shot. Being fed up with eating pizza, I have decided to avoid it at all costs in what remains of my blog, seeing that you, dear reader, deserve at least the minutest sense of variety.
Entering Armend’s
Amongst all the Italian restaurants I’ve visited in my blog, Armend’s probably has the ambience that is most in tune with the “rustic Italian” theme that has grown to be so popular. Sometimes, less is more, a philosophy that Armend’s follows on key, with just a couple tables, a relatively open kitchen and one flat screen were we saw a soccer game while we ate a late lunch.
The Service
Seeing that we had a late lunch, the place was practically to ourselves and another couple. Our server was the owner of the place, which gave a nice extra touch to our culinary experience, and was always attentive with us, never letting our glasses go empty and keeping our tables full.
The Food
We ordered a meatball sub, a shrimp pasta and an order of fried calamari for our meal at Armend’s (I told you no pizza)
Meatball Sub
This sub was good, not out of this world, but it was as good as a meatball sub gets, it could’ve used a little more cheese and the meatballs could’ve packed a little more flavor, but what it lacked in flavor, it made up in size. I hadn’t eaten a single thing for breakfast and I could barely finish the sub. Despite what I said about the flavor, it is a sandwich that I would order again.
Fried Calamari
It is hard to find something outstanding from fried calamari, since it has become basically a cliché in every Italian/seafood restaurant. These were good, probably could’ve used a little less batter, but the sauce that accompanied them was good at balancing the saltiness of the fritters.
Shrimp Pasta
Probably the highlight of the meal, shrimp were cooked perfectly and it wasn’t an overwhelming amount of pasta. All of the ingredients were balanced perfectly both in quantity and flavor.
Conclusion
It is hard enough to find an outstanding Italian restaurant, seeing the surplus of places that have adopted this thematic. However, while not soaring through the standards, Armend’s is definitely beyond average on its food, and the service will certainly weigh on their favor. If you’re ever around Southlake and want a simple, satisfying Italian meal, Armend’s is your place.
